How to check a water well driller's license in Oklahoma
Before you sign, look the company up on the OWRB licensed driller and pump installer search. The Oklahoma Water Resources Board licenses well drilling and pump installation firms and sets the minimum construction standards they must follow (OWRB Wells and Licensing).
Does a water well driller need a license in Oklahoma?
Yes. As of November 2, 2026, OWRB licenses well drillers and pump installers, and a well drilled by someone without a valid OWRB license or operator certification falls under the state plugging rules (OAC 785:35-11-1).
How long does a driller have to file the well record?
60 days: OWRB says licensed drillers must submit a multi-purpose completion report within sixty days after completing a new well, plugging an abandoned well or reconditioning one (OWRB My Water Well guide). While OWRB's online log system is down, reports go by email on paper forms (OWRB Wells and Licensing). Ask for your copy.
Questions to ask before you sign
- What is your OWRB license number, and is it the firm's name on the OWRB search?
- What per-foot rate, estimated depth and casing type are in the quote, and what happens if the well goes deeper?
- Is the pump, pressure tank, wiring and line to the house included?
- Will you disinfect the new well? OWRB says new wells should be disinfected after completion or repairs (OWRB My Water Well guide).
What we do and don't do
This site is not a driller and does not license or rate anyone. When you request quotes, we pass your request to local well companies, and you should still check each one on the OWRB licensed driller search.
